How to fix a paper jam in a Dell Printer?

Updated: Aug 24, 2018

Having a paper jam in your dell printer is a bad experience. A paper jam happens when paper gets struck in the printer while feeding the printer or while getting a print out. The printer keeps on pushing and pulling the paper which leaves the paper crushed or uneven printing and smudging. Usually a pop up message alerts us to look into it and do some action. You can follow the diagnostic steps given below to get rescued from the trouble.

  • First of all check the instructions in the instruction manual provided with the printer.

  • Some instructions are also given on the printer such as how to pull the paper out or where to look for the problem. So carefully read and follow the steps.

  • Switch off the printer and let it cool as the fusers inside it provide it heat so it is hot.

  • Open the door vof the printer from which you access the paper. Pull out the door and the tray whichever is possible so that you can have a closer look inside where the paper jam has occurred.

  • Ensure that there are no left over paper bits and torn paper inside the printer.

  • Pull out the toner cartridge by its handle and remove the paper from there if any. Replace it after removing all of it.

  • To pull out the sheets that are jammed hold the paper carefully and then pull it in the direction that it normally feeds. Do not pull it backwards as it may damage the function of the laser printer.

  • Place back all the trays, doors and cartridges and turn it back on.
